Five years ago today Ireland said YES to love
To celebrate this momentous anniversary, Tourism Ireland has released a brand new video to showcase Ireland as a welcoming, open and kind destination where marriage is for everyone.
On 22 May 2015, the people of Ireland went to the polls to make history as the first country to legalise same-sex marriage by popular vote. To mark five years since this momentous occasion, Tourism Ireland created this video featuring voices from Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community describing how home has changed for them since this incredible day.
The video features the historic celebrations in Dublin Castle the day following the referendum as the results emerged, alongside inspirational shots of Ireland’s breathtaking landscapes, including Skellig Michael in County Kerry, Glendalough in County Wicklow, Fanad Head Lighthouse in County Donegal and the Hill of Tara in County Meath.
Travelling to the island of Ireland remains a dream at the moment, so Tourism Ireland has created this video to celebrate five years of marriage equality in Ireland and to remind the world of the wonderful culture, stunning scenery and sense of Irish pride that make the island such a special place to visit.
