The Brown Thomas CREATE 2022 event launches on 5 July, showcasing the very best and brightest in Irish design.
The twelfth CREATE event will present the exceptional talent of 27 designers across ready-to-wear, handbags, accessories, jewellery, hats, shoes and ceramics collections.
Now a regular fixture on the fashion calendar, CREATE originated in 2010 and has become well-known for pioneering and mentoring the most exciting, emerging and established Irish design talent.
The much-anticipated summer event also provides a platform to showcase the designers’ work in the Brown Thomas stores in Ireland, including the flagship store on Grafton Street in the heart of Dublin’s shopping district.
For Irish designers, opportunities don't get much better than presenting and selling their work in the country’s premier department store, alongside some of the biggest brands in the luxury business such as Gucci, Dior and Balenciaga.
The brainchild of the company’s Fashion Buying Director Shelly Corkery, the event is hugely popular with international visitors, with non-EU consumers able to avail of tax-free shopping.
Making their debut at CREATE 2022 are the likes of Rachel Maguire of
Rashhiiid, a specialist in luxurious faux-fur hats lined with duchess satin silk, and
Kindred of Ireland founded by Amy Anderson. The brand designs luxury linen with heritage and heart, breathing new life into the tradition of Irish linen by creating timeless pieces with a contemporary edge.
Sustainable brand
Begley and Bowie returns with a bespoke capsule collection. Designed by Doireann Healy, the collection features sweatshirts and t-shirts with colourfully illustrated pieces inspired by Dublin city and a range of her own fine art prints, which she has screen printed in her studio in Kenmare, County Kerry.
Éadach by Sara O’Neill returns with a stunning collection inspired by Belfast’s 1930s Art Deco architecture and textile history, crafting a story which pays homage to the Belfast ‘millies’, the incredibly skilled women who worked in the linen mills of Ulster. She has developed this story into a print, which features on silk scarves, dresses and kimonos trimmed with Irish linen.
CREATE is also introducing an extraordinary mix of jewellery designers this year. Among them is
frkl, a contemporary jewellery brand founded by TV personality Angela Scanlon in 2021. It features demi-fine unique, hold-dear, keep forever pieces that can be layered and built over time to create a personalised wardrobe of cherished pieces.
Meanwhile
Melissa Curry’s bold, versatile and impactful pieces have resonated with celebrities and aristocracy, from Ru Paul and Michelle Visage to Michelle Obama and the Royals. Her latest collection ‘Fleurs’ echoes the essence of Melissa’s French and Parisian influences and celebrates a feminine spirit.
