Ireland is extremely welcoming towards the LGBTQ community and is looking forward to promoting it even further. There are numerous events taking place in Ireland to promote and support the LGBTQ community. The month of June is pride month and the Island of Ireland is really becoming the place to be for it. Festivals are taking place throughout the whole Island for pride month with our largest festivals taking place in Belfast and Dublin. Belfast pride will run for 10 packed days from Friday 26
th July to Sunday 4
th August. They plan on making it the biggest celebration yet. Dublin pride will take place on the weekend of June 29
th – July 1
st with events such as a huge parade, Blue light for Temple Street Children’s Hospital, exhibitions and lots more!
The Outing festival
This event was created in 2013 by Eddie McGuinness, a gay matchmaker in addition to the highly successful matchmaking festival in Lisdoonvarna each year which has been around for more than 170 years. The outing Festival has become the off-shoot of the traditional matchmaking festival and has its stand-alone weekend. This year, the festival is moving location at The Inn at Dromoland. Weekend 27
th & 28
th September 2019.
Everyone is welcome! The festival calls singles, couples and groups of friends- straight or gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and their friends. There’re no restrictions other than being over 18 years of age!
LGBTQ Weddings
Tying the knot on the Island of Ireland has become a very popular destination for both locals and overseas. In 2015, Ireland became the first nation to legalise same-sex marriage by popular vote. Irish gay weddings have become extremely popular since then and people are travelling across the world to get married in the Island of Ireland.
As romantic destinations go, few places can match the rugged beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way, the incredible sights of the Causeway Coastal Route, not to mention the rolling hills of Ireland’s Ancient East. And don’t get us started on the warm and welcoming nature of our cosmopolitan cities…
